Boney Mountain stands at the northern end of the Santa Monica Mountain range separating Newbury Park from Malibu. Boney Mountain House Concerts take place on the Newbury Park side at the Brandick residence in a beautiful small community tucked away in the Portrero Valley at the foot of the mountain. It's midway between downtown Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. Just a few times a year, the Brandick's convert their great room into a performance space and invite outstanding artists from across the U.S. are invited to play for a small audience of about 40-50 people.
There is nothing quite like listening to great acoustic music in an intimate setting. It's like a party for friends with extraordinary entertainment. The musicians are right there in front of you. Many in the audience are either amatuer or even professional musicians. One artist commented that so many people were staring at his hands, rather than his face, he wasn't sure they were listening. But oh, were they listening.
The audience does not buy a ticket to a venue. They bring food and drink to share and pitch together to pay the musicians. This is usually a $15 donation with a small amount set aside for the rental of chairs. It is an opportunity to be a patron of the arts rather than a consumer and everyone goes away happy. The audience gets a great show for a low price and the artist gets properly paid. Think of it as a 21st Century version of the Renaissance with a potluck appetizer and dessert buffet.
