House Concerts
Folk music is not what it used to be. Nowadays it is an overaching term for acoustic music that includes everything from old fashioned country blues to intricate songs in all manner of open tunings. In October 2008, I initiated Boney Mountain House Concerts. I did this to give myself a place to begin playing again and to bring outstanding music to Newbury Park, California. It has worked out better than I ever could have expected. Great musicians have come to entertain my friends and me and I have learned what it takes to produce high quality music.
My Music
I was given my first guitar when I was thirteen years old and have been playing and writing songs ever since. I played in coffee houses throught the mid-1970's and then stopped. About eight years ago, I began to get back into it. The house concerts have given me a window into the music world. Walter Strauss showed me what amazing things could be done with an acoustic guitar without a sound hole. John Batdorf opened my eyes to well contructed songs, clear singing and clean playing. James Lee Stanley demonstrated, with a master's touch, how to put on a show combining stories and songs to produce a tremendous evening of entertainment. Beth Wood combined soaring melodies and hearfelt lyrics and took the audience away with her to a magical place. Each artist put their own unique mark on the term folk music. And all of this has happened in my living room.
I've produced two CDs, All Those Roads in 2006 and Home is Where the Music Plays in 2008. They were both recorded at home in the family room using simple digital equipment. My son, Charlie Brandick, helped with the engineering and mastering. Click on the CD covers for more info. You can also check out the music at
